The pearl of medieval Armenian architecture
Tatev Monastery was built in the 9th-13th centuries. In translation from the old Armenian (grabar) "tatev" means "give wings". Indeed, located at a great height, it seems that
Tatev stretches upward
to the sky. The walls seem
to be a natural extension of the rock that raises it so high. Thanks
to the construction of the Wings of
Tatev, the longest cable car in the world (5. 7 km), the complex has become one of the most visited places in Armenia. On the way
to the monastery you’ll have an opportunity
to taste armenian wine in
Areni winery.
Our next destination will be
Khndzoresk. Here is a large number of caves, although most of them are rather small. You will see that many of the caves have been carved out by man. You will find the ruins of a village, a beautiful ancient church, very old tombstones and the swinging bridge. It is was built in 2012 and has 160 meters long, 1, 5 meters wide and rises 36 meters above the ground. The bridge connects the two banks of the village. Admire the splendid view of the gorge from the bridge.
