Gary is an experienced teacher who follows his lineage with honesty and integrity. Hatha Yoga Shala is an excellent studio for those seeking guidance in genuine yoga practice without all the jargon and fads.

Gary is an exceptional teacher (from my 6 months of beginners + some intermediate classes from 2008-2009). Through his guidance in just 1 lesson a week (+ dedication in my own time) I went from being unable to touch my toes to laying my hands flat besides my feet and doing the splits in just 4 months. Unfortunately I had to cease attending. Then, when I returned in 2010 I found he had changed his lesson plan :(. Being an exceptional teacher is one thing, having a lesson plan that maintains a desire to keep returning is another. Perhaps I just really liked the first routine but I really found the new beginners routine extremely limited compared with what it used to be. I've not experienced yoga elsewhere though so I can't provide a comparison but I will no longer say to friends that I highly recommend him - I think he's now just like any other instructor. What I did like however was that there was no music (sorry, but I don't like the lahdidah stuff that some places play) and there wasn't any instruction to "let all your days worries go by" - like permission ever made it easier (I don't like the mumbo jumbo hippie talk that some yogi's employ).
