Sashimi really fresh and great quality, good selection of Jap beers wine and sake. The Wagyu beef eggplant dish was great but was a little on the sweet side. Good dining experience

The service was wonderful and the food is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the grilled black cod. Not many Japanese restaurants in Melbourne have this dish available on the menu so I was thrilled to see it available at this Ballarat restaurant. A juicy, freshly sweet, melt in your mouth experience.

Had dinner here last night with a friend and I had heard good things about this place so was excited to dine here. I arrived first and was warmly greeted by the front of house.

I liked the face that the menu was "small" because that often indicates a smaller range of dishes that the place does well; I think this is true of Kambei.

I had the small sashimi and the mackerel. Both were delicious and I wish I had selected the "large" option for the sashimi! The miso soup was also delicious with high-quality tofu used.

My friend had the tofu salad; I tried the dressing and it was incredibly tasty.

The bill was not as high I as I had been expecting. All in all a lovely experience. However it is quiet; some music in the background might enhance the experience. I will be back, though.

Arrived on a Saturday evening with no booking and staff could not have been more gracious. Food was fresh - well prepared and tasted amazing. Menu is a good combination and the house plum wine is excellent. Will be heading back to Ballarat sooner rather than later just to go again. Thanks for the lovely evening. Belle
