Disappointing in the extreme.
To be honest I'm a little confused about some of the very positive reviews, I can only assume they have lost a great chef and replaced him with a donkey in the last month?
I love Japanese, I love the simplicity and the flavour, unfortunately Miyabi takes simple dishes, adds fuss and complexity and losses flavour.
It's like they are trying too hard to create food beyond their expertise and what comes out is a disappointing and overly complex array of sub par food. As an example there was a salmon Nigiri that had been formed up as a large cone (akin to the old fish and chips in a newpaper cone)
Completely oversized for a piece of nigiri, packed full of japanese Mayo, half an Avocado, a sliver of salmon and a couple of shreds of carrot.
It was an absolute sloppy mess.
One of my favourites is a classic Okonomiyaki, Miyabi however chose to drown it in Mayo and BBQ sauce to the point where the okonomiyaki was swimming in sauce, it was just slop, astoundingly sweet slop at that given the amount of BBQ sauce, I couldn't even taste the okonomiyaki.
Even sashimi was made with no care, big chunks of fish, different shapes and sizes, no wasabi, ginger, soy or finesse was forthcoming.
A simple drinks order (Gin & Tonic & a lemonade) is even a miss because they've run out in the middle of the week with very few customers about.
Try any number of other Japanese restaurants in Hobart but avoid Miyabi.

The worst Japanese restaurant I have ever seen. No eel, no soba noodles, only plain noodles without any meat. I can only have a cup of coke and leave.

We had the banquet here- the food was excellent and very good value. Great sashimi for the price!

Food was delicious, and the dining setting is very 'intimate' (read: small). Despite getting the worst table in the restaurant, with customers brushing past us to pay, the food was wonderful and every other table looked fine.
