My grandmother was admitted into the transitional care unit for this hospital.
She does does not speak a word of english, just purely Italian. She finds it hard to communicate or express what she wants as she is illiterate and has never had an education. She has not had a good life suffering from PTSD which has led to schizophrenia and dementia. My mother has been the main communicator/interpreter when she has been at the hospital for the nurse and my grandmother. Unfortunately due to her medical condition my grandmother at times may not comphrend what is going on around her and due to such confusion she does feel at times she has to defend herself. However in the eyes of the nurses she is considered a 'difficult patient' and will avoid her at all costs. Only solving the matter by 'drugging her up'. She never had ANY problems at the brother hospital of St Vincent's in Fitzroy.
Even if she needs to desperately go to the toilet and is distressed and crying in pain that she needs to go. (It doesn't help having only one toilet for six patient's.). The nurses most of the time don't go into the rooms to check in on patient's - see how they are going (unless they have to). Their consideration of supervising their patients is by monitoring them by sitting on a chair in the hallway. Every time I go there I myself feel like I'm in a prison and without fail find the floors to be sticky, which makes me wonder how often they actually mop the floors there.
Words can not really express how disappointed me and my family are with this hospital. She has in actual fact deteriorated since being in that hospital (from initially being able to walk to not being able to really walk at all). We are searching desperately for another hospital to get her out of there. To be honest this hospital is actually lucky that it is even receiving one star. Countless times the actions of the staff members have received my mum and myself to tears.
They just don't have any cultural understanding and the nurses need to learn that patronizing and being sarcastic towards patient's and their families does not achieve anything.

I was born here, so it can't be that bad.

I admitted my mum into this place today for rehabilitation and it is so old, depressing and freezing cold. Needs a bulldozer put through the place. I cannot imagine trying to get rehabilitation in that place, as I was depressed just being in their for 5 minutes.

Can't give less than 1 star.
Truly one of the most horrifying places I have ever been.
Culturally, ethically foul.

Very clear indication! Love to use it! Thanks
