The decor might look a wee tired, floor might be manned by non japanese staff, they might be dressed casually in tees (no discernible ‘uniform’ as far as i rem), toilet is a trek to get to, menu might be sticky on some pages. Overlook all those, you might be pleasantly surprised at the food.
Salmon roe chawanmushi 3.5/5, came piping hot with 2 layers of roe. A layer on top then as you work yourself into the bowl, there is another layer 😃. I have never come across that.
Crumbed oysters 3.5/5, too many places use less fresh oysters for deep frying thinking they can get away with it, not these guys. Fresh oysters 3.5/5, topped w some jap sauce, i cant rem the name.
Katsudon, cant score this as i only had a small mouthful. Our monster refused to share any further. I guess it was good then 😄
Soba noodles 3/5, served cold n al dante, perfect company to sashimi.
Tempura 3.5/5, light batter, not overwhelmingly oily, fresh prawns. So easy to overfry n burn the light batter or underfry making it absorb too much oil. They got it right.
Cold tofu 3.25/5, lobster/salmon sashimi 3.75/5, roe sashimi 3.75/5, toro (tuna) hand roll 3.75/5, i dont usually like tuna, but can appreciate the effort put into making this roll. Unlike mass made ones, the seaweed held till the end n broke cleanly w each bite, generous toppings of toro, in fact small ratio of rice vs the toro.

The sushi is good but the only thing the price is really expensive, we really enjoy the sushi, and the beef, it was nice.

Continues to decline in quality and hygiene year after year. This was never one of the best Japanese restaurants in Sydney but now it's certainly one of the worst. Eating here you can't help but worry about whether it's safe. The tables are dirty and the toilets are something they should be ashamed of.
