The place to go for fresh Conch salad. Although tourists are quite welcome, this is where the locals go for fresh Seafood.

Potters Cay is located underneath the Paradise Island "exit bridge " and is a collection of quaint, rudely constructed food shacks that line both the east and west side underneath of the overpass. All kinds of Bahamian comfort foods can be found here including the islands #1 treat, the conch salad.
Now here's the skinny, I've lived on New Providence Island for a year now & I continuously find the same issues Island wide so here we go.
First problem is "bums & panhandling " which again is predominantly centralized around the tourist areas and is very evident at Potters Cay .. This certainly added nothing to the experience so I want anyone who reads this to know that right up front...
#2 problem is the fact that I can almost guarantee that if you look like a tourist you will be approached to buy certain "things" that are ( I'm trying to be nice) completely illegal in most areas of the US & Canada.
I'm sure that most people do not want to be locked up abroad, so I suggest respectfully declining & move along... However I do believe that the Bahamian police could do a far better job of keeping an eye on this as tourism is the Island's staple business.
To summarize, I know other locations worldwide have the same issues & I am sure that Bahamian authorities know it's a problem & are trying to deal with it .. Potters Cay would have been very cool had I not had to deal with the above listed issues.

We love eating "under the bridge", and go there every time we are in Nassau. Not too far from the port, you can walk if you like, or take taxi for $4. The shacks look very much like shacks, they are not joking - but we never felt uncomfortable or unsafe. We usually get conch salad and local beer, end up with under $15 per person. Service can be slow (you are on a Caribbean time) - although in our experience it was never as slow as in fancier places.
