I rented a car for business travel.
It was presented to me with a dirty exterior. I was in a rush so I decided to overlook that. But, as I drove away, I noticed a layer of dust on the interior Dash, steering column, etc. As I drove to Halifax it shimmied as it was out of alignment. Dash said oil change needed.
I called Avis and 'Deb' argued with me and said there is road construction nearby so that is why it is dirty. Of course, that does not explain the dash and steering console covered in dust. She said if the alignment felt unsafe then try and find an Avis to exchange the vehicle. I had no time for this as I had a business meeting in Halifax to get to. I and my colleague were astounded by the conversation not to mention the vehicle condition.
Upon return, I mentioned again the condition of the vehicle and as payment was being cheerfully processed by the manager, he had no response. I didn't want my bill reduced or anything like that. I was just astounded they would rent a vehicle in that condition for business travel. Maybe they are interested on non corporate rentals only? I dunno. Maybe they knew the vehicle had issues when they rented it to me. I wasn't rude. I let it go.
I usually rent elsewhere, but thought I would give Avis a try. My mistake. Next time I will return to the competition in town that cater more to government/corporate clients.

When I arrived to pick up the car, the manager, Tim Smith, instructed his staff to provide me with a small SUV, at no additional charge. "There's going to be a lot of water on the roads today, and we don't want you hydroplaning," he said. "Your safety comes first."
When I returned the car the following morning, Mr Smith took it upon himself to give me a lift back downtown. I told him there was, indeed, a lot of water on the roads, and that I felt considerably safer in the larger vehicle.
Mr Smith and his team represent the very best in genuine, caring, customer service. Bravo!
The next time I visit Fredericton and require a rental car, I'll be calling Mr Smith and Avis on the Hanwell Road.
