Closed for the past few weeks now. And really, is anyone surprised?
I registered a number of complaints to Cara Corporation regarding the business operations of this particular location in 2015, and I have to be honest when I say that I'm only surprised that it took until May of 2017 for the place to finally be shut down.
I'm not certain what the particular reasons are, but the city padlock leads me to suspect that it isn't a voluntary closure of the restaurant.
When this location first opened in I believe 2012 my wife and I went during the opening week and the place was packed. We were both excited as there was no other Swiss Chalet restaurant in Red Deer and as a child my parents had taken me there when we lived in Ontario and the food was delicious.
We noticed over the years that the place was becoming less and less busy, and we did notice on our visits that the maintenance of the restaurant seemed to be not a priority. There seemed to be an ever slightly increasing amount of lamps that were burnt out.
We only ever had a couple of less than pleasant experiences as guests where the chicken was dried out and stale tasting. We took a brief hiatus from going there on our date nights and returned after a couple of months, and we were relieved to find that the food was once again of the typical quality we had come to expect.
In January of 2015 I was hired for a dishwashing position at this restauarant. I worked for 2 months until I quit my position rather abruptly - I in fact walked off the job, something that I have never done anywhere else during my working life. I submitted a number of formal complaints to Cara Corporation regarding the business practices of the management staff after I quit. I suspect that my complaints weren't given a great deal of gravitas. During my tenure here as dishwasher I observed a number of blatantly illegal things, such as servers under 16 service alcohol, wait staff picking fries off of customer's plates and eating them prior to serving them, and indeed the owner and manager partaking of alcohol in the office. Hell, after hours they'd invite the staff to drink with them in the seating area before they clocked off their shift.
At some point in early summer of 2016 my wife and I were shopping for groceries at the nearby Sobeys, and we noticed Ashley and Kerry - the franchise owner and manager - in front of us at the checkout. We saw that they were purchasing a frozen chicken, and we exited the store after them and I noticed that they got into their vehicle and drove over to the Swiss Chalet. My wife and I exchanged surprised glances, as it appeared that they were transporting a frozen chicken from Sobeys to be prepared at Swiss Chalet.
Anyways. I am frankly glad at Swiss Chalet's closing of this particular location for reasons I have mentioned before - namely the poor management practices - but I at the same time hope that it might re-open under different management. As we have been actively not patronizing the location since I quit my job there, we would be pleased to return if this would come to pass.

We don't like be there. No air everything in a fog of frying food. Food as for me not bad my husband didn't like chiken(((

We were so disappointed with the service and the meal on family day Feb 20, 2017. There were 3 of us dining together that evening as my mother was awaiting surgery in the hospital after a fall and the 3 of us were looking forward to a good meal. The chicken and potatoes were over cooked and the service was slow. Also expensive. We had seen advertisements on the TV in Calgary that were far better prices than offered at the Red Deer location. Very disappointed and will not return.

I'm leaving a negative feedback back against Swiss Chalet Red Deer. Besides your meal not being delivered withing the 1 hour time frame on Valentines Day the Delivery driver yelled at us and swore at us when we provided information to get him to our place sooner. Upon filing a complaint they refused to send us a new meal an left us without a meal or options for the evening since it was too late for them to correct there mistakes .
The manger would not accept responsibility and provided us a free meal sent via mail as a instore credit/gift card but still has not shown up it been over 3 weeks. NOT HAPPY ,Poor customer service and poor leadership and lied too us.
