A bunch of Thieves! Back in April when I was visiting my mentally ill brother I got a phone call asking for him. I thought this was unusual, but since he was right there with me I let him have the phone. When I heard him answering some questions I asked for the phone back and found out it was BMO Insurance wanting to sell him some kind of insurance, so I said NO and that he was not was not well and did not work.
I am the trustee for his inheritance and I had arranged a join debit card with BMO so he could use it for spending on day-to-day expenses, and when I checked his expenses some time later I found BMO Insurance had "somehow" been deducting money from his account since April.
I went to BMO bank to find out what this was, and after a day they managed to find out it was BMO Insurance that had been deducting the money. The bank assistant gave me an 800 number to call them and I did, of course when I said I wanted to cancel they said I needed a power of attorney! They would not give me any information about the policy either even though I had all of my brother's info. I asked how we had "signed up" and they said a phone call. So I said then why can't I cancel it the same way? They said nope! So now they have collected 4 months of money and I need to pay for a power of attorney to stop them collecting?
I put a stop payment on the next cheque, but I may have to close the account to get rid of them.
I went to my BMO Branch and asked them how BMO Insurance even knew my phone number and account information to collect money when they are supposed to be an "Arms-length" company to BMO? They coulden't explain that either.
