Star Rental

I didn’t need to be nervous about renting a car from a small local car rental agency. For me renting from Star was a smart move. It is a small agency that is big on friendly and professional customer service. We just needed a car for the weekend but had to return it after hours on a Sunday night. Star had this covered with a building ‘concierge’ who opened the gate and accepted the key on behalf of Star at about 7:30PM.

Gas was also an interesting experience. He took a picture of the gas gauge, then told me to bring it back with that much in the tank. It couldn’t have been easier! I don’t know if the owner spoke English because I brought along my daughter who translated for me but he sounded friendly and acted like someone accustomed to being fair and professional. I paid for our competitively priced economy sized car in cash, submitted my credit card for the deposit (enough to cover the insurance deductible) and we were done. On Monday the pending credit card deposit was removed, as expected.

Great experience renting from star rental. The car was waiting for us at the airport when we arrived, automatic car in great condition. Very competitive prices compared to the big rental companies. Will definitely use them again!

Great experience renting from them, staff was friendly and responsive, car was in great condition and would not hesitate to rent from them again in a future visit.

Price compared favorably to local and international agencies and I rather support a local business when possible. Car looked and felt like an ordinary car (as opposed to a rental), which I consider a plus so it does not scream tourist and it is less of a target for break-ins.

The business owner was very professional and communicated all the information on a timely basis ahead of the trip. He was running a little behind during my requested pickup time due to traffic and rather than leaving me hanging, sent his daughter to get the process started prior to his arrival. Drop off was smooth and he met me at the arranged time (after hours) as agreed.

I'm an American that visits Chile often and I generally rent a car while I'm here. I found STAR to be an excellent alternative to the extremely expensive international car rental chains and on a one week rental, I saved well over $800.US.

For this latest rental I was given a car with approximately 100k miles and a few bumps and scrapes. That being said, it was in excellent running order and took my family and I to the Elqui valley and back without trouble. I was met at the airport by a representative with the car and I returned it to the same place. Very efficient. The car included a wireless transponder for the toll roads around Santiago. It came with a car alarm and a security bar for the steering wheel. Unlimited miles and all insurance coverage is included.

There were no major issues and the staff were all very friendly however English was limited. I would suggest nailing down all the details of your rental via email before your trip. 5-star rating is mostly for value since you'll pay 3x the amount renting from an international chain at the airport.
