Was staying in Mercure on Renmin Square (not grand).
Great location, great facilities (gym, pool, breakfast). However, bathroom was bot so good and clothing storage limited.
Did have great nights sleep as my room was located om courtyard, so relatively quiet. Single glass though, so you do hear sounds from parking cars, people talking etc. But great dark curtains.

Although difficult to find the first time, the hotel is located with a small cluster of other hotels. Good service.

Room was small, aircon hardly worked and had to keep the window open. The fridge wouldn't get cold but once reported they did change it over for a working one.
Location is good and you can use the pool, bar, gym etc at the Sofitel.
The Italian restaurant was nice but very expensive. They wanted $1030 yuan for a steak and $500 yuan a bottle of wine.
And our room backed on directly behind a school sports oval. From 7am until about 6pm all we could hear was the sports day and music on the loud speaker.

Not a brand new hotel, but still in good shape.
Very large rooms.
In the walled town, close to the center. The hotel is in a huge complex that includes other Accor hotels (Mercure, Sofitel). They all share come services, which is a plus.

This hotel is a bit older and hidden within neighboring hotels. PROS: Quiet, good front service, lobby exceeds many 5-star hotels, good location, cold AC, clean room. CONS: Small room, small bathrooms that could be updated (moldy caulking), crummy view from the window. The rooms are a bit smaller, but they were comfortable. We stayed in a room on the second floor near the elevators and lobby area, but heard no noise. The front desk service was great, and I would recommend this place because of the price.
