I have been using the Budget office in Tamarindo for years, they have always tried to meet my expectations, sometimes even with very little advance notice. As with all rental cars companies in Costa Rica it always helps to speak directly to the office where you want to rent from, you will have no surprises as to rates and insurance fees. When you go through websites like Expedia you will not get a correct quote. I have never been disappointed with Budget Tamarindo service and cars.

Reservation price doubled at the desk. I booked through Expedia and was quoted a price that was supposed to cover all taxes and fees. The reservation said to pick up the car at the Tamarindo Airport but when we arrived at our reservation time they had not delivered the car. The manager Fabio told us we could pick the car up from the office in town. The website said there would be an extra charge for drivers under 25 and over 70. When we were trying to check out there were additional fees for adding a 42 year old driver and additional taxes that took the price from the quoted $187 to $475 for our ten day reservation. We chose not to rent the car due to the price.

We rented a car at San Jose and returned it to Tamarindo on December 13th as planned. We explained to Fabio in the office that we were taking a flight from Tamarindo airport early the next morning and he said that we could return it to the airport at no extra charge and give the keys to Ricardo at the Nature Air desk. This is what we did. When we got home we found that we had been charged for two extra days. We submitted a claim through Budget US which was denied. Will never use Budget Costa Rica again.
