Vergina, famous as burial site of the kings of Macedon, including the tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great and the larnax with the Sun of Vergina ‘symbol of Greek Macedonia’. West Macedonia is often called the “energy heart” of Greece, mainly because the 70% of country’s total electric power is produced in this region. Kastoria, situated by the Lake Orestiada, is known for its many Byzantine churches, Ottoman-era architecture and fur clothing industry. Prespa lakes, shared by Albania, Greece and FYROM with an abundance of rare fauna & flora, are declared as Transnational Park in 2000.
