The food quality is above average, the quantities are generous and the staff is very polite. Traditional greek dishes in a budget.

This place is amazing! Not only are the prices at this restaurant are less than half of any other restaurant in town, but the portions are at least twice as generous! The quality of the food is excellent and the service is lightning fast. This establishment is heavy on meat, but they also feature a few fish items that are well prepared. Even vegetarians can find something to satisfy them. Their Greek oven potatoes (a generous serving for 2.50€) are some of the best we’ve had in Crete. Tzambas is frequented mainly by locals - the location is off the beaten tourist track. But I cannot see how a place like this can remain a secret for long. My wife and I recently dined there with two friends. We ate until we couldn’t eat anymore (we had to take leftovers home). Plus we had a liter of wine. The check came to 20.90€! Today my wife and I at there alone an paid 16.20€ - and took home containers of food and shared a half liter of wine! The wine was 2€! A bit of trivia: the word “tzamba” means “nothing” or “free” in Greek. This is about as close to free as you will ever find in a restaurant - a restaurant that doesn’t compromise on quality and quantity.

Arrived lateish on a Thursday night - immediately apparent that this is a popular local place.
Ordered Tsatsiki, fries, small fried fish and lamb chops. Waited a little while for the chops, but all the food genuine and excellent.
Our waitress spoke good English and was very sweet. All in all, thoroughly recommend.
