at first I was pretty worried with average 1.7 stars
but please do your research, buy the insurance that fits you (or even over)
I drive very careful and park far away from other car, I still got a small scratch from stone chip, lucky I paid GP from them and nothing to worry
I got Clio which is 10000km only, overall condition is very good

Terrible! A bunch of scammers. STAY AWAY! They wanted to charge us $900 for a nonexistent dent. We argued and then they said 500.They literally just wrote on a blank piece of paper "dent $500" as a estimate. What a joke. I am reporting this to the Iceland tourist board as well as to my credit card company as a scam. I have my own insurance so will be reimbursed. I have travelled many countries and rented cars and never had this experience. Normal wear and tear on a car is expected, not an excuse to get more money out of tourists! There were other prior big dents on the car so clearly they are not even fixing the cars!!! SCAM.

I was concerned after reading the scam reports in the reviews here, but my group had no issues. The car was nice and we got in and out pretty quickly.

ACE Car Rental is a complete scam run by bad people. This was our first time renting a car ourselves (we just turned 25 years old). When they showed us the car it was night and they had washed it down IMMEDIATELY before showing us. The car looked new, and they said it was relatively new but it was difficult to see any marks. We were in a hurry so I took one photo of a small dent and we signed off on the car. We drove it on roads only for less than TWO days before bringing it back. The guy (from Greece, I didn't get his name) "found" a scratch on the side that looked like from a key or knife, and small dents on the hood (easily masked by water droplets at night). We bought their 2nd level of insurance and still had to pay $500 to them. After I disputed it he went on to tell me how ACE has a partnership with a garage where they take their cars. The "garage" is also owned by ACE. They set arbitrarily high repair prices and scam tourists. This was the cheapest rental place we could find and a huge mistake. Furthermore, I accidentally left my passport and cash in the center console with 100% certainty. The same guy from Greece claims he was the only one in the car since I dropped it off and denies having seen anything. I searched my photos for evidence of when I had it on my person and called the few places we had been that day to check. We can say with 100% certainty that he stole it from the car. We missed our flights and had to spend more money we couldn't afford to get a new passport, flights, hotel, and expensive Icelandic food. I'm so inspired by this series of events that I will post this everywhere I can leave a review. Good luck out there people!

STAY AWAY! After renting cars in dozens of countries, on multiple continents, this was by far the WORST rental experience EVER. Be warned - your rental documents will not be from ACE Rent A Car, but Go Iceland. At the time of pick up, a young employee in jeans and a hoodie quickly ushered us to our vehicle. We did a very quick lap around the car, as it was raining, and didn't notice any major damage. The entire process may have lasted 10-15 seconds, and we were happily on our way. Since we only visited for 3 days on a stop-over, we were limited to how much we could do - so no backwoods dirt road exploring was done with the car. When we went to return the car, another employee came out with a rag and started wiping the vehicle to look for damage. He painstakingly inspected every single centimeter, in what was easily the longest inspection I've ever encountered. After placing his face within 3 inches of the car, he found what he called a "scratch" on the passenger side. The car was soaking wet with rain droplets (it is Iceland), and we were not seeing what he was talking about. After getting on the ground and within a few inches of the door, a small line - no bigger than a hair was slightly visible. I touched the "scratch," which ended up being some sort of organic debris, and it actually started to rub out. It was at that moment the employee even said, "you can't see it when it is wet," but it is a scratch. I was fuming, as this was clearly some sort of scam intended to target tourists. We had a flight to catch and had already wasted so much time debating about this non-existent scratch, so my husband went in to "pay" for the "damages" so that we could leave. While they were inside, I took pictures to submit to our credit card company (since they provide coverage when things like this happen). As the clock ticked, I went into the building to find that they were trying to charge us $1,400 to cover the "damage" - which did not exist. We signed the documents, and had to run to catch our flight. I was in complete and total shock. You hear about these things happening to unsuspecting tourists, but never think it is going to be you. Thankfully, we reported the scam to our credit card company and they fully reimbursed our entire $1,400. Stay far away from this place, as it seems to be a repetitive pattern from other reviewers. We have also submitted a formal complaint with the Icelandic Tourist Board along with the photographs, so hopefully this does not happen to anyone again in the future.
