Contrary to the many horror stories told by other reviewers here my experience with Budget was alright. Sure the line was very long (none at the other agencies) and the staff were a bit disorganised (when the line was the longest 3 out of 4 employees went away for a break or something) but the deal I got was worth the 20 min wait. Once I got help the woman at the front desk told me about the existing damages and gave us the child booster seat we had pre-booked. That only had one which would have been to small for my son if he was a bit taller so I don’t know how they would have solved it then - so make sure they really have a seat for you in advance. The price of the seat was also a bit higher than previously stated (about 15 € more in total for 4 days).
But once we got to the car everything was dandy. We got a fairly basic VW Polo that did the job during our tours.
When returning the car at 05:00 in the morning I was a bit nervous due to all the stories here but the guys inspecting the car just had a look at it and confirmed the previous damages and that was it. Direct transfer to the terminal and I really have nothing to complain about.

Caution, complete rip-off!!!

We just returned from Iceland this week and now I saw an extra charge on my credit card which was about half of which originally paid!
We specifically only booked an additional driver and gravel protect.

However, the woman behind the counter failed to inform us that they do not offer gravel protect and instead added a SCDW which for us was complete overkill since we already had complete insurance cover through another company.

This is completely unacceptable and at no other rental car company in Iceland (it was my 6th time) have I ever not had a dedicated gravel protect insurance.

Go somewhere else if you ask me or you'll regret it!

I had the same experience as others in these reviews with the ding in the windshield scam. Upon returning the vehicle, the attendant claimed there was new damage on the windshield and that they would have to replace the entire windshield to the tune of $600. It was 5am and we had to catch our flight and had no choice to pay. We are currently seeking reimbursement from our credit card company, but this is completely unacceptable. I'm considering filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau.
Also, had the same issues as others upon pick up. Line was ridiculously long and slow while the other 2 rental car agencies had no line. Service agents were curt and rude. Take your business elsewhere.

I feel like I have to write a review to counter some of the somewhat overwrought reviews found here. In my experience, this Budget rental location was considerably more efficient and well organized than many, many car rental locations I have dealt with. There was zero wait when we arrived to pick up, and a throughly reasonable conversation with the rental agent. I wasn't strongarmed into getting additional insurance past my credit card's, and if anything they were far less aggressive than most rental agencies in the US. The one thing they did differently than the US agencies is that they give you a damage waiver with all the damage on the car indicated beforehand at the counter. They said they would be happy to amend it if we wanted to take pictures / double check before we left the lot. Return was very easy and efficient. Honestly, I don't know if the bad reviewers are awful drivers, have never rented a car before, or have some kind of axe to grind, but rest assured, this is an utterly average car rental business. Don't psyche yourself out reading these reviews (like I did!).

Oh my god. Hours of waiting in line when getting into the airport at 1 am. Then realized why when we got to the front of the line. We couldn't understand the woman's English, and she couldn't understand us. Seemed to be going that way for everybody else too. Then, she didn't tell us we had to buy a prepaid card for gas. We chose the "fill your tank" option but because we didn't know about the prepayment none of the airport gas stations she specifically told us to go to would take our credit card. So we got charged for gas plus a $30 service fee. Wonderful.
