It's a really horrible company, during our trip we had some problems with their car, and when we called to customer service they didn't want to solve problem, only said car didn't have any big problem then let us keep going. After 1 hour our car was broken and they charged us huge money from our bank account without any notice and invoice. Now already passed 1 week they still didn't connect us. Also they were cheating us that we had tire insurance but they said "No, you don't have" then scanned and email our insurance documents without tire insurance to us! How a big company can do this dirty thing! I won't rent their car again.

In contrast to most reviews on Google, we had a great experience with Sixt Keflavik. We arrived pretty early in the morning to pick up our car. We had to pick a line number, waited for about 20 minutes and then got the keys to the car. The Hyundai I10 we hired in the first place wasn't available but we got a free upgrade to a bigger Chevrolet Cruze. The woman that helped us at the desk was friendly and explained to us what we needed to know about the contract. We did have to deposit 1500$ since we didn't book any insurance with the company, which is a lot but fair since we used insurance on our credit card. They reminded us to verify if all damage on the contract was on the car before we started driving so they wouldn't charge us for them. We took pictures anyway to be sure as evidence that it was already there. After a week driving 2000km, we returned it with a full tank, as asked on the pamphlet on the rear view mirror. They inspected the car for any damage and off we went. All in all a very pleasant experience and definitely unexpected with reading reviews online!

I really don't recommend this place. Sure it is cheap but they almost have everything set up so that you end up paying extra.
First of all, they charged me a fee for being below 25 years old and never told me there was a fee.
Second, they just said take the car and they never checked for any scratches or anything. They expected us to take pictures of the car as evidence, but that is not right usually other companies go with you and check everything.
Third, they charge you a 2,000 Euro deposit and they tell you that once you give back the car they give it back, But that is a lie, once I returned the car the guy told me I had to wait 20 business days for the credit card hold to be released in case I got a speeding ticket or something.
Just pick another company that will be more transparent and will tell you in advance all those things. Because Sixt clearly doesn't.t

With great hesitation I rented a Duster from Sixt. Yes - the check in process is longer than one would expect in the states, however the person who checked us in was very helpful and nice.. He took the time to review all the details and answer questions. I deferred to my rental car coverage provided by my credit card company as far as damage and they took a 2k hold on my card. I turned down the windshield and tire damage as well as prepaid fuel. He clearly explained what was normal wear and tear vs damage we would be held accountable for. I took many photos of the existing damage, which there was some. Had the car for a little less than a week and made sure to hose the dirt off prior to return. After waiting for ~10 minutes the return associate completed his walk through and emailed me the summary which outlined no new damage. From all the reviews I have read and reflecting back on my experience keep a few things in mind.. 1) If you travel outside of Reykjavik the roads turn to dirt and are very rough. 2) Cars and repairs are likely very expensive as is everything is in Iceland. 3) This is not a US rental car company you’re dealing with. Therefore, cover your a$$ and spend the time taking photos and use the mirrors available to you and look under the car before you leave. It's difficult to fight with them before you board a plane or after you get home. This is a really cool country enjoy your trip!!

I guess these many 1star reviews already say something about this company. Here is my story:
Booked a car with 4000km (2500miles) and drove about 1000km (600miles). When I was returning the car, the worker found 1cm and 5 cm scratch under the bumper and claimed that I made them. As I would never think of checking small scratches under the bumper that look like a dirt , I could not prove them it was not me.
At first they claim that for each scratch I should pay $500, $1000 in total . Then, somehow decided that even $500 is enough.
In theory, now they can charge $1000 for each customer who takes that car, because no one will check 1 cm scratch under the bumper.
