Warning !!! at Europcar in Bergamo, and probably other Italian and Spanish rentals. At first glance it may seem that rentals in Italy and Spain are among the cheapest in Europe. Offers start at as little as € 15 / day. Nothing more wrong! We had a bad experience with Goldcar at GC at LasPalmas airport, where compulsory insurance was x3 more expensive than renting a car. The contract was obviously in Spanish and it turned out that 250 euros was not the deposit itself, because 200 euros insurance and just 50 euros was the right deposit. Obviously, the deposit was refunded but at EUR 50 and EUR 200 after returning home and translating from Spanish it turned out that it was an extra insurance and the contract itself was created in a very intricate way so that the customer at first glance did not know about the scam. Of course, in Poland I bought insurance against the lack of return deposit, which turned out to be insured for 50 euros - in total, no sense. Being in Italy at the Bergamo airport we were able to rent a car from Europcar at a very affordable price. X3 said that I do not want extra insurance. When booking I paid 195 PLN / 2 days. I was convinced that it was a good price. For the same insurance they offered me another 200 zł, of course I refused. When booking a car at Ryanair theoretically gave a guarantee, a new car. The car was about 2 years old in all defects, including a broken rear lamp and a hole in it with a diameter of 0.5 cm. Not all defects were presented in the contract. We found 2 dashes of the front flap from the engine. The serviceman said that it was nothing but after our request before leaving the rental they added damage to the contract. The car was hired at the time of the loan. 21.00 and it was too dark to check everything thoroughly. Our mistake was that we did not take pictures of the entire car. I really did care about the car, in the car park I left in the last place where there were no other vehicles around to avoid any scratches. I mainly used the motorways. I tried to go as much as possible. By giving the car I was 100% sure that nothing bad happened. The car in the middle was clean "0" crumbs. The dark blue Europcar employee from Bergamo Airport checked the interior carefully, the counter was quickly swirling around, and how he would have stopped at the rear wheel pointing to a damage to the right rear wheel. 100% of the time I did not bother about the curb. Obviously, finding the defects at the time of borrowing did not come to my mind that it was necessary to check the helmets thoroughly. I received a deposit after 5 days with a deduction of about 325 zł for a damaged cap. I'm not talking about allegro where you can buy for 45 zł / 4 pcs but on the service to the Renault Clio 1 pcs of the original hood costs exactly 94.58 zł! After pointing out the damage, the employee did not see the car anymore, it was strange. I am convinced that in every car there are hidden defects that are not served on contracts but it is an extra income for the rental. After all, they have to live with something. Employees of this title also have additional profitable. Anyway, this is an obvious scam! We must remember that if in Italy or Spain we do not buy compulsory insurance, which often exceeds the cost of renting a car, then the rental will compensate us for a hidden defect of the car. I also rented cars in France, Greece and Poland and such a problem did not occur at all, but it is probably another culture of these States. I am in the process of searching for a real estate rental company across the EU, where I could be a member, have a discount card and, above all, as a customer treated with respect.

Over a month since we had a four day car hire with Europcar and we are still trying to get over 100 Euros refunded for being mistakenly charged an extra day of hire.

This is impossible since we were back home on the alleged day the car was returned.

Unfortunately we booked through a third party, argus car hire, so cannot resolve this directly but if you are renting with this Eruopcar in particular be super pedantic - keep receipts, take photos of paperwork, take photos of car at return bay with date stamps, supply photos of passport departure date stamp, google timeline, do a fb checkin mebbe, twitter, tweet, foursquare.

Aside from this issue, the customer service was unfriendly, really tried to push us to buy insurance (we have our own insurance for car rentals and excess) and they kept us waiting an hour to pick up the car.

I will be posting my experience on other forums to warn potential customers to be extra vigilant with this europcar store in particular.

I would like to say, that your employee at Bergamo airport reception is a STAR. Angelo was quick,polite,efficient and very helpful, even though we arrived 1 hour earlier he gave us the car and upgrade for free.He really made our trip in Italy better. His service was a perfect 10.

I book my car last minute on line,at pick up location in Florence i spent 4 minutes and all was ready to go,at drop off location at Bergamo airport 5 minutes and all done. Great job Europcar :)

DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE!
We just received a bill for €500 for non-existent damage. They tried to charge me for a "scratch" that I promptly removed with my thumb and a little spit. They also are trying to charge me for a "broken skirt" that not only isn't broken, but wasn't damaged at all. We had the car for 2 weeks and we were at the beach everyday, so yeah there was some sand in the car, but they are trying to charge me for "extra cleaning" for basically vacuuming the car.
We received the car with less than a full tank, dirty exterior, less than spotless interior.
It was cheap to rent, so I think they are trying to make up some revenue by screwing people over by charging them for "damage" that doesn't exist, or petty extra cleaning charges.
DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE!
