In contrast with most of the reviews, our experience was just fine! Other than waiting in line for a long time and some difficulty finding the return point, everything was great. The service when picking up and returning the car was quick and efficient, the car was relatively new and exactly what we had ordered - overall a very good experience.

Utterly appalling!
I so wish I had read the Google reviews before booking - direct - with Hertz Catania Airport as we experienced the same dreadful service as so many others.
Despite having just become a Hertz Gold Member, we queued for 3 hours for our car. Our paperwork said the car had been inspected by a trained employee but was, in fact, filthy inside and out; had 31 major items of damage (eg. a huge dent in the roof, dents around all wheel arches; damage to all four alloys) and only had 6/8 fuel when documents stated it was full. We had to queue another 30 minutes to get a Hertz employee to record all the issues.
On returning the car, Hertz tried to bill us nearly Euro 500 for all sorts of extras! Another hour spent arguing about this resulted in the contract finally being closed out with zero for us to pay.
Then, on our return home, discovered Hertz had billed our credit card (a totally different sum from the purported bill in Sicily).
No response yet from Hertz to our complaints.

Like so many others, we queued for one and a quarter hours only to find that they were unable to supply the automatic car that I'd ordered online weeks before. I accepted a manual car and requested a refund of the price difference but was told I have to apply for this on returning to the UK. The atmosphere at, and around, the desk bordered on chaotic at times, with Italian customers occasionally rushing the desk and having heated discussions. This was not the level of service that one would expect from a major player in the car hire business, and it has really dented my confidence in them.

We had to wait two and a half hours in a ticket system queue (42 people ahead of us!) to collect our pre-paid car which was as long as we had been on the plane from the UK!!. We had got married the day before so were exhausted and after having to wait for 2.5 hours for the car we then had an hour's drive to our accomodation. There were loads of other car rental companies there and if we come back to Sicily we will be using them. Sadly, I think the delay was down to the company being vastly understaffed during the busiest time of the day and various customers haggling for unnecessary upgrades. The car we were given was actually really nice which is why I have given the review one star.

Very long line. Car was almost two hours late and still upgrade was refused to car model which would have been ready. We were then told that the car was "without damages" but when inspected together with Hertz representative we together found many large scratches/dents which we added to the damage report. I previously had good experiences with Hertz but you should avoid this office if at all possible.
