The service and the car was awful. The car a Fiat with automatic transmission would frequently neutralise and you had no drive in forward or reverse. An alarm would frequently beep and was very annoying. I called Avis to get advice and assistance. After many call trying to contact someone A rather abrasive person on the phone would not listen and hung up on me. I tried to call the office from where I hired the vehicle from, the phone would continually ring out, when I eventually got to speak to someone there was no one who spoke English. I decided to drive the vehicle back faults and all. It is quite unnerving to be in a foreign country, not speaking the language, having a problem and having no support whatsoever. I had other issues with the contract and the currency exchange. Needless to say I will never use Avis again. I wrote to Avis in my home country, have had no answer after two weeks.

I understand that there are a lot of people on here who enjoyed this service. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that this is the worst car rental place on Earth. You should not by any means come here whatsoever. They swiped my mother's credit card and withdraw $800 and they claim they didn't get the money and refuse to refund it to her. We have been in here for 3 hours now going on 4. Wasted a whole day of our vacation. NEVER again will i come back.

We rented a Volvo V60 because we brought a wheelchair, first of all there were no break cars. We had to pay an additional 20€/day to upgrade to a Van. After we disagreed, they could bring the price down? The the insurance we booked online, was not valid anymore? And last my credit card was not of the right type? While with this card, I rented a car 3 weeks ago? We we wanted to cancel the booking at the desk, they told us, we had to do it online by ourself, so I tried it on my phone while standing there: on the official Avis booking site stated in a big banner: Booking can't be edited less then 24hours I'm advance... Showing this banner at the desk, now they could immediately cancel the booking and print out a form, took them 5 seconds.
Conclusion: we ordered a big cab! Much cheaper, no hassle, and no parking trouble! Thanks! :D

Booked and paid extra for an automatic, safe, spacious and fun Volvo V60 or similar, but Avis gave us a cheap Ford with the driving pleasure of a bus. The guy next to me ordered an SUV, but got a sedan. They said these cars were in the same "group". Don't expect Avis Rome to give you the car you expected, they will give you something else and ask you to pay extra for something else (in my case 15€/day for a V90). Disappointing!

Landing In Rome airport with two toddlers can be overwhelming in itself. When we got to the Avis/Budget Group Car Rental desk there was at least an hours wait. Jessica (front of house) was an absolute life saver. Both kind and extremely friendly, she immediately brought us to the front of the line, where we were looked after and checked in pronto. The reason for the four stars and not five was a little confusion around the upgrade details and charges. Overall, just ensure you get it all details in front of you before you commit. We ended up with a very new Mercedes regardless and a very comfortable ride throughout Italy.
