Food's ok, nothing exceptional, can't really figure out the cuisune. The ambiance is romantic, but the wait is exceptionally long, we wanted to leave after the main course!

Food-wise, their butter is the best thing we had. The restaurant is beautiful, and has a lovely ambience. The service is also great - very kind and attentive waitstaff. Unfortunately the food didn't live up to the hype. We ordered the bresaola carpaccio with Gozo cheese and figs, flash-fried cuttlefish, grilled lampuki, and lampuki pasta. Everything sounded great on the menu but the flavour was just mediocre. The carpaccio had an oddly slimy texture and just didn't go well with the cheese, figs, or capers. Everything else was just a bit too plain. We only really enjoyed the free bread and butter - the butter is (strangely) outstanding and well-seasoned with herbs (perhaps anise as well?). All in all, a disappointing meal in a beautiful restaurant with lovely service. But come here for some wine and bread with butter!

Positive start, it was busy but they found us a table. Starters were very good as was the local red wine. Mains were disappointing. After over an hour's wait the expensive fish stew turned out to be a very small portion and the Persian chicken had no flavour what so ever. 2 other tables also had problems with their orders. Shame, it was a nice place but didn't live up to expectation.

Amazing find!! Stumbled across it as we walked up the street after having a giggle at the name as it reminded us of McDonalds.....we decided to have a look as it was downstairs in what looked like a cellar / basement & it was very very hot outside.
I cannot recommend Maldonado highly enough. The food, the service, the decor, the atmosphere......perfect!!!
Our host was very generous with his time & food / wine suggestions, excellent choices on his part, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. One of our party was gluten free, they catered for her without batting an eyelid, even making her gluten free bread that she still raves about!!!
If you find yourself in Victoria (old Rabat) then Maldonado is a MUST!!
