I was really torn on how to rate Hospital Galenia. My husband was in their ICU in March of 2017. He was hospitalized nearly a week with dehydration due to c-diff which caused his heart to go into afib and his kidneys started to shut down. The care by Dr Rafael Ruiz Orjeda, his cardiologist and nephrologist was absolutely outstanding. We have nothing but good things to say.
BUT, like others, we were assured the bills would be sent to our insurance company, but we were asked to make a down payment to the hospital of just under $8000, which I was told would be reimbursed once we got home and insurance kicked in. We also had to pay all of the doctor's bills, which believe it or not after a week in the hospital (3 days of which were in ICU) were about $4200. When I paid the last doctor bill upon my husband's release, I asked what the approximate total bill was and was told around $20,000.
However, a couple of months after we got home, we received a bill from a New Jersey company called Med X Global for an outstanding bill of $110,000. I initially didn't look at this closely and assumed it was in pesos. When I finally realized this was US Dollars still owed, I was shocked and furious
When we finally got an itemized copy of bill it was obvious all charges had been converted to US dollars. We called Med X Global and when I told them I had asked about the total bill on the day of my husband's discharge and was told it was in the range of $20,000, their response was "they shouldn't have talked to you about this.". Galenia has obviously contracted with this New Jersey company to deal with US insurance companies and that seems to have allowed this company to bill at US pricing.
It is November 2nd and as I write this review it has taken 7 months to get insurance with my husband's primary carrier resolved. They paid all but $1000 of the $110,000 bill. He has two insurances so we are submitting the remaining bill to them. But to date, we have received no reimbursement on our $8000 down payment and only received $1500 in reimbursement on doctor bills. It has been an extremely frustrating and disheartening process.
Again, the care was great. Dr Rafael Ruiz and team were amazing. But it's hard not to believe that champagne bottles weren't popping on the day Med X Global provided Galenia with payment from our insurance company.
My advice if you are in the hospital reading this with a loved one receiving care there: demand an itemized bill of all services at the time you are released. Don't let them say "don't worry, we will provide this to your insurance company". The sad part, the amazing doctors, are receiving payment for their hard work at minimal pricing

The best hospital in town. Dr. Mata from E.R. is great.

Dr. Alicia Benavides was excellent. Hospital nurse did not have enough experience to start an IV and left my arms black and blue both sides and never found my veins. The anesthesiologist told him to stop and he did it at the operation room with no problem.

Best place in Cancun when you are sick or need to check anything with a doctor. You find also the drugstore inside and a Santander ATM.
Always be attending ver well and quick.

It has been almost a year since my trip to Hospital Galenia but I will always be thankful that they were there. On April 12, 2015 I slipped & fell on smooth pavement at one of the Resorts close by.(Compound Fracture of my right wrist as well as deformed wrist & smashed bones. My insurance company recommended them as well. As soon as we walked in the door in the ER I was looked after, taken immediately into a bed while my sister provided my Insurance information. The staff was familiar with my Insurance Company and took things over. I was taken into x ray, the Orthopedic Surgeon was there & I was admitted to the hospital & prepped for surgery (due to compound fracture surgery had to happen within 12 hours of the fall). My hospital room was almost like a resort & the staff looked after me very well (some language problems but wouldn't complain). The Hospital Administrator as well as the Surgeon checked on me almost daily as due to the number I did on my wrist, I was in Hospital 4 days & 3 nights. They kept in touch with my Insurance Company, I didn't have to worry about anything. All the staff from start to finish were friendly & professional. Any of my friends that go to the Mayan side of Mexico I tell them about the Hospital Galenia.
