Great place to learn about life in the seventeenth century as well as learn about life for artists in general and Rembrandt in particular. Preservation is excellent. Not as commercialized as Ann Frank’s House.

Rude staff member, but otherwise excellent visit!

When we entered, we asked about the Museum Card, for which entrance is free, and whether a Museum Pass we purchased about one week before our visit included such a perk. The man selling tickets said the Museum Card requires an actual card mailed tons residential address in the Netherlands. Obviously, our Museum Pass is not that. OK. I jokingly commented, "There is so much information for tourists, itgets a bit confusing"... to which he replied sarcastically, "Like your president." Well, I was born and raised in CANADA. (True, I am also an American citizen.) But terribly offensive, completely inappropriate... he was "going for the jugular" in response to my relatively benign comment about tourist information online.

Anyway, the rest of the visit was delightful, interesting, with friendly staff.

Very good exposition, definitely shows you the contact between Rembrandt and his pupils, and materialises the effect on their styles and inspirations.
The staff was very nice as well

Great quality audio tour! Really interesting! Loved the show and tell about how paints were made particularly!

Really cool experience, especially for a museum. Google maps showed it was busier than usual, and yet we didn't have to wait in any lines, so that combined with the very reasonable entry fee was the first win. Took a minute to get the hang of the (free) audio guide system...it operates like a remote control you point at a little target on the wall to hear narration for each room/exhibit area. Really cool to hear the history, which I knew none of previously, and to walk through each room meticulously restored to look exactly as they did at the time when Rembrandt was forced to sell the home due to his bankruptcy. Stand in his studio, try the manual paint making process that apprentices did for him on a daily basis, check out his outrageous collection of ancient artifacts from around the world in his "cabinet" room, and admire all kinds of art, while immersing yourself in Rembrandt's life and story. I'm not into traditional art museums at all, and my husband is into them, so this was a great compromise that was cool and interactive enough for me, while still offering enough of the culture and art works my husband enjoys in museums.
