When we arrived there was no one here to allocate us to our bedroom or tell us where to go. We called the phone outside and a girl answered saying that the manager would be there in 10 minutes (20 minutes later..) the manager arrived telling us he wasn't expecting us even though we had arrived at the time we had written on the booking. We walked in and found that the kitchen wasn't clean and the bed in our room wasn't made. After 35 minutes of the guy talking to us while he was making the bed and telling us that the male bathroom was out of order and that there was only one toilet in the entire facility. The shower was alright but the hot water wouldn't always last long until it turned freezing and the door wouldn't shut properly so another person would have to stand outside to make sure no one would come in. The manager said they were getting it renovated however. After the manager happily gave us a lift into town, and just before we got out of the car remembered to give us a key to our bedroom and he had locked the door after we had left to go out. This turned out to be entirely the wrong key and informed that we had to enter through the back gate and that the back doors were always wide open (which made the house freezing). There was also an old man in the kitchen who used it as an office and practically lived there so whenever we walked in to the kitchen (day and night even at 2am) it felt like we were disturbing him. The bed was a good size and was comfortable, however the TV had very poor connection and only connected to 3 channels in Freeview and often has visual and audio issues. Blankets and heaters were provided which was good. No WiFi either so if that was needed, we were advised to go to the backyard and try connect to 'Spark Free WiFi' which still didn't work. On our last night here a lady called us around 10pm to collect the money in cash which was a little inconvenient, so if staying here then all money needs to be cash in hand and paid whenever suits the manager. Overall, the bed was nice and the people were friendly but the service and accommodation itself needed to be improved and organisation should be taken seriously with the managers considering the amount we still made for the room without being able to use the run-down facilities properly.

We are in winter. Heating system not working in room #4. Had to sleep street clothes on. The kitchen is good. Boys shower not working. Garden needs clearance. Reception was cold. Eastgate shopping center is near.

Maybe it's not the tidiest place in NZL but the price is the best in all of christchurch.
Every point this hostel loses because of it being a bit messy or the too small kitchen /bath is made up twice by the owners. They might be the most helpful and likeable people running these kind of business I met so far in NZL.
They are dedicated to this small hostel. Just in the middle of expanding/ renovating it all by themselves. They'll always try to help you if you can't find any place to sleep around town or maybe if you got problems with your car.
Definitely a recommendation!

Good prices for an in town hostel. Free towels for your showers. It's a bit cramped though but you can camp in a tent of you're looking to save money.
