I have decided to join a gym to lose weight and keep fit this year. This gym is the closest one to where I live. Since this is the first time I have been to a gym, I chose to join their gold membership, which includes two personal training sessions. I expected to get an idea about how to achieve my goal and familiarise myself with the facilities to avoid hurting myself.

The first session was just fine and I got introduced to the gym and taught how to use some of the facilities. At the end of the session, I booked with the trainer for the second session on Tuesday at 7pm. In Tuesday morning, the trainer called me to see whether I can make it a little bit earlier and we agreed to meet at 6pm. When I arrived at the gym at 6, only the front desk staff was there, so I went ahead to warm myself up. After about 40 minutes, the trainer still didn’t show up. The front desk girl tried to call her a few times, but couldn’t get hold of her. She left me a voice message later in the evening, saying that there was a family emergency and she couldn’t get my number, which is apparently a lie because she just called me in the morning with her personal phone. I understand everyone could have something emergent, but not showing up without any notice is just unprofessional, so I decided to ask the front desk girl to try to book me with another trainer.

The next day I didn’t hear from them about any arrangement of my second training session, so I have to call them after work. The front desk staff apologised for what happened and said this has “never, ever happened before”, so I have to consider myself lucky then. Anyway, she helped me to book with another trainer at 6:15pm on Thursday, so when a client called me later to have a meetup after work on Thursday, I have to postpone it. In Thursday morning, guess what, the trainer called me saying she couldn’t make it and want to reschedule. I was totally thunderstruck and infuriated at this point but I managed to calm myself down. I thought about cancelling my membership, but since I signed a one year contract and cancelling will incur $150 termination fee, I decided to first check with them whether I can downgrade my membership to just end this personal training nightmare. I called them and Scott, the co-owner, answered the phone. He apologised for what has happened and was happy to downgrade my membership to bronze and wiped out the first training session I had, so the only star is for his good gesture.

As I said, this is the first time I have joined a gym. I have never ever expected it would be so painful, upsetting and frustrating. Failing to show up in an appointment without any notice is simply unprofessional; Having booked an appointment by a front desk staff but the trainer telling you otherwise the next day is just a sign of poor management. Up till now it’s still beyond my comprehension how all of these happened in such a business entity that has so many positive google reviews. For me there is still one year to go in this gym. Hope the rest of my journey will not be as rough as the beginning.

Great smiles at reception, wouldn't choose to work my forearms anywhere else.

The on screen motivational quotes are just the icing on the already delicious cake.

Travelled over for the lions tour.

Fantastic gym, staff and equipment.

Raw and focused, gyms in the U.K. can learn a lot from this place.

Great homemade protein shakes too, Snickers recommended.

Couple of good staff there but mostly cold and uninterested trainers that don't seem eager to interact with the members. Staff aren't big on smiling or saying hello.

Decent facilities and always plenty of parking available, it has what you need to workout but not what you need to want to stay.

Great gym with all types of training facilities. 24 hour access. Super friendly staff who are very knowledgeable and helpful in any way they can. Clean and tidy. Plus Victor (staff member) makes an epic protein shake! haha
