While it's somewhat odd paying a little more than you may think to fry up your own fish that you caught, it sure beats trying to do it yourself especially if you're on holiday. We went fishing and brought back two giant snapper fillets that they fried up very nicely (pretty salty too from both batter and fish) but were delicious freshly hot or refrigerated cold. Obviously very little seating though so likely expect to grab and go.
UPDATE: came back with enthusiasm years later after initial visit and just as friendly and great. Theyre good as suggesting which fish you may like too.

Should have looked at other reviews before I ate here. The actual fish was good, but way too much batter on it. Chips also good, and a large portion, but charges 2.50 NZD for a cup of tomato sauce AND tarter sauce. By that point, you are up to 15 or 16 dollars, you might as well go across the street to the waterside restaurant and have a sit down meal for about the same price! And the attitude is that you are lucky they are waiting on you. I'd pass, sure wish I had.

It's ridiculously expensive. $7 for a piece of fish and it's not necessarily going to be a big piece. Although the fish is nice. I got $6 chips and it's like half the size you can get in Auckland and it wasn't salted. They got my order wrong when I asked for no sauce on my hot dog. They are worth the $3.50 each considering how big the hot dog is. Overall I'd say it's well over priced. The lady on the phone who took my order was incompetent, had to repeat everything 2-3 times. Unlikely to go there again if we decide to come again on holiday.

Real Average Fish & Chips. We got the fishermans basket. Calamari was processed frozen stuff (gross) and you had to wade through the batter to find the fish and when you did it was dry and had no flavour. Mussels were also average and over cooked (tough). We are not fish and chip snobs but this was not good.

Delicious fish and chips. Service was great and whilst waiting for my order everyone kept approaching the staff as they where leaving saying how great the meal was and this was there 3rd or or 4th time there and they come every time they visit from overseas.
One lady "didn't like the flavour of the New Zealand Whiting compared to Australian Whiting" she was offered another meal or a refund but she declined. Which I thought was great service on their part and Interesting compared to some of the negitive comments already posted.
