Cockroach City - avoid at all costs!!!

I tried to get a room in the lovely South Cross Hotel but it was fully booked.
I tried the Slouch Hotel across the road and was informed that there was only one room available for one night only. So I booked it as rooms appeared to be scarce this today in Manilla.

I was then shown to my rather shabby, low ceiling room but it was for one night so no matter.
I dropped my bags and grabbed my ATM card and went out to get some cash.
I returned to the room, to discover the floor was walking in insects.

So I grabbed my bag, went to reception and whispered to the girl that I could not stay there as the room as full of bugs & that I had already killed three roaches. She then called an older lady and once again I discreetly explained my issue.

They then both said that they would have to talk to the owner.
The girl then returned and said the owner said that you can't have all your money back and that he is taking five hundred Pesos (about ten Euro or ten dollars).
I explained that I thought that this was extremely unfair, I was only in the room twenty minutes, hadn't used any of the facilities and that they would have no problem getting rid of the room as it was only four o'clock and already all of the other hotels were fully booked.

"Sorry Sir" ........
"Do you want the partial refund" ?
"Yes" I said, "I guess I have no choice" ...

Filthy dump, do yourself a favour and keep away!

Been going there since 2006. Just a few minute walk from the US Embassy. The place is safe from street vendors and hookers. Staff is very nice and accommodating. The food is pleasent. Overall a great atmosphere.
