Stylish apartments, corp N2 was real Ocean view incl Christo Rey. A lot of groups of noisy French, so some performances for them lasts till midnight and if you wanna sleep it is necessary to close door on the balcony... Bus stop next to the the entrance, as per schedule every 30 minutes to Funchal and back, pleasant walk to Canico by feet also possible. Location of this hotel is perfect. You should check possibility to use 2 hidden stairways and pass from your room to the Rey or teleferico to the beach takes just 15 minutes. Gift souvenir shop is much cheaper than in Funchal... To complete: swimming pool under roof is the biggest, breakfast is eatable , just beware of coffee from machine.

Nice and clean, you can do self catering or Bed and breakfast or half board, plenty of cafes and resteraunts just out side plus mini markets bus stop outside for funchel €2.40 one way trip of about 15 mins

Old, but clean. Crowdy, geared to French. Nice area. High above the ocean, you need to go down a lot, but from half way there's cable car (2,50 € down & up). Breakfest every day the same. A lot of lizards. Nice view on the ocean (from some rooms). No air condition.

We booked the hotel as a last minute deal so the price was ok.
But...
It is a big old hotel, it was refurbished probably 20-30 years ago so as you can imagine old bathrooms with painted tiles (??) :D , single beds, no fridge or hair dryer in the rooms. The breakfast is poor, always the same selection. The eggs were horrible. No brown sugar or sweetener, coffee is bad, sometimes no available seats in the restaurant at breakfast time. They didn't changed the towels for a whole week.
If you book here, prepare your self for these things as sometimes these are annoying during your holiday.
The pools are nice, the staff was very friendly and helpfull.
Overall not the worst but for a bit more money there are a lot better hotels.
