A great holiday resort set in gardens. Perfect for relaxing and has all amenties: bars; restaurant; swimming pools; spa.

Stayed here for a week on a timeshare swap. The two-bed apartment was fine meeting most of our needs. It would have been better to have WiFi in the room as well as the public areas but this is a big resort and difficult to cover.
Cleaning staff do a great job but are keen to get into the rooms in the mornings so hanging the do not disturb sign (they dub it "Having a wonderful time") is advised.
The in-house buffet restaurant was disappointing but the Madeiran version great with appetite beating portions. Buffet breakfast is sufficient but predictable.
There is a small, often crowded, heated indoor pool. There is an associated jacuzzi but this part of the complex felt slightly tired. The unheated outdoor pool reflected the chilling temperatures of late February.
We were able to explore a lot of the island partly by bus, which stops just outside the hotel, and partly by a couple of trips organised through "customer relations". If you don't have a lot of luggage the Aerobus to and from the airport stops by the hotel. At 5 euros (it costs 37 by taxi) it's a good choice.
There are restaurants, minimarkets, an ATM and a splendid cake shop nearby.

We had a wonderful vacation in Madeira.
The hotel was very nice, with fully stocked kitchenette. Each room has daily maid service. The hotel is well located within walking distance of the city center. There are two food markets on the street directly in front of the hotel. Several excellent restaurants nearby. We also enjoyed the restaurants connected to Miramar and the Towers which is good option if it happens to be raining. The staff was very friendly and helpful. In addition to walking, bus transportation runs in front of the hotel.

The Miramar has a very original feel to it. Some may find it old fashioned, others will sense it's Portugese roots and appreciate traditional values. However, the service is everything you'd expect from this Pestana Aparthotel. Conveniently located from the centre of Funchal, up and along a busy road, the Miramar provides everything you'd need for a stay on this beautiful island.
