Interesting if you want to know more of Portugal's history! Nice little shop in the entry, no WC. Cheap entry fee!

We visited this lovely little jewel of a museum at the end of February 2015. Recently, I had read a book on the voyages of Vasco da Gama. I was fascinated by the history of the Portuguese explorers, not least because I had visited Sri Lanka and discovered that many Sinhalese have Portuguese surnames. So, obviously the Portuguese were there before the Dutch and then the British.

This is not a large museum but the waxworks are superb. Each scene displays the life-size and shape of the explorers and the dress is magnificent. By each waxwork there is a description of the person with a precise summary of the history.

The museum is situated in Lagos in the Algarve, because this is the birthplace of the Portuguese discoveries. It is situated, appropriately, by the marina which makes it an easy place to access. Entrance fees were 5 euros for adults, seniors paying only 4 euros. It is a small 'gem' of a museum and it is well worth visiting if one has half an hour to spare. I would think that it is a good place to take children as the way in which the waxwork figures and scenes are set out, is attractive. There is not too much information overload, either.
