It's certainly worth the visit, just make sure you book ahead. Also note the fine irony, the Synagogue is guarded by a German Shepard dog.

I went there to buy some matzas for the Seder and unfortunately they only had some expensive ones left (18€!!!) and they couldn't make me a receipt. The place looks nice, but I didn't have the chance to take a tour. It seems not to be accessible to wheelchairs and strollers at all. The best thing was the beautiful German Shepard who is guarding the entrance, he is a very friendly dog, once you are inside the gate of the synagogue.

This was by far the best part of our trip to Porto.
Just ring the door bell and you'll be welcomed into a peaceful and educating environment. Joanna, our guide, was just brilliant: we learnt more about Portuguese history in those few hours than we did on our entire trip. Moreover, the synagogue is just beautiful.
You don't need to be interested in religion to enjoy this day out. If you're interested in history then this is the place to be!
