So far, the only place selling authentic ayam penyet. The fried chicken was fresh, crispy and not too oily. Not much varieties in their dishes. A place to go if you are looking for good tasting sambal chilli - super hot!

Was there this morning for a cooking class with the lovely Shanti and her very demure, absolutely quiet chef who skilfully produced some popular indonesian snacks: Gabin Goreng and Kue Lumpur. Don't go for the decor its plain and simple and absolutely spotless. It did remind me of many of the Javanes food stalls when my friend Ima and I did a bus trip through Java almost twenty years ago. So is definitely authentic! The morning started with Nasi Pecil. A most divine plated breakfast with perfectly spiced chicken rendang, jasmine rice, perkidel and fried tempe. There was some beef beehoon as well but I didn't get to it as I was full up after polishing off the rendang, half the rice and half of the perkidel! Despite spending quite a few years in South East Asia I had never had Nasi Pecil. I never liked coconut milk baced sauces but this was divine. Our was light, even buttery...hmmmm my mouth is watering. I guess I am going to be dragging my DH there for weekend lunches now. It's way cheaper than a certain noodle place and infinitely more flavoursome.;).
