Love it! Got my Computer Science undergraduate degree and an Information Systems post grad here and I've had an excellent start to my career because of it. Look no further for Computer Science; the quality of education here is one of the best on the continent.

If you are an international student, DO NOT consider studying here. Your degree will not be recognised in the USA. My wife got a degree in speech therapy and was also unable to practice in South Africa. Instead she volunteers. So on top of the terrible study experience, incompetent lecturers, constant campus shut downs due to protests and high fees for international students, the degree has little value for us.
That being said, we love KZN (just not UKZN) and the students and hearing about her helping others were definite highlights. I'm glad for the experience but feel that it's important to warn others. Instead, consider a real university in the Western Cape.

As a place of employment, it had its ups and downs. Some leadership was / is completely incompetent, others are good but hampered by all sorts of bureaucratic red tape.
As an educational institution, I witnessed numerous students cheating or being outright dismal, yet I suspect they still went on to graduate.
I'm not at all disappointed that they renamed from Natal University to UKZN.
Or put it this way... I wouldn't send my kids to study there.
