Nightmarish experience hiring from Bidvest. Steer clear unless you're happy to buy them a new Mercedes for no reason.
A rock hit the undercarriage and caused an oil leak which eventually stopped the car. It was towed away to be fixed and that was the last I heard of it. Until Bidvest contacted me claiming they had decided to write the car off rather than bother with repairs and demanding I pay them R325k (unclear whether that was to buy themselves a new Mercedes or to represent the value of the years old, heavily used one they gave me).
Bidvest's reason for claiming R325k from me was their assumption that the car must have been giving off screeching, flashing urgent warnings telling me not to drive any further. It wasn't. There was only a tiny and silent non-urgent 'check oil' indicator.
But on that incredible basis I have been subjected to a months-long campaign of threats and demands by Bidvest for the full value of a car I drove (perfectly safely) for a few hours.
