Interesting place. Starts with a video detailing many of the discoveries in the local seas and bays (This is in a chilled room and can play havoc with camera lenses!). Great galleries with finds of various ages, including icons and statues washed up in the tsunami of 2004. Well worth a visit (there is a charge).

Lot of stufs to watch. Parts of ancient ships which were sunk around Galle habour can be seen here. Photographs, ancient coins, pots, liquor bottles, animals skeletons, etc are also conserved here. It may take up to 5 hours if you are watch those carefully.

Nice little museum give you some information about the area. The exhibits and layout of the museum were good and the building itself is also nice.

Reopened as the country’s first National Maritime Archaeology Museum on March 2010 and after suffering from the December 2014 Tsunami, it's original Dutch warehouse building was fully renovated under a special grant from the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The new museum now has dual access - the upper level entry linked with the present main gate, while the lower level access has reinstated the position of building as a prominent gateway.
Apart from showcasing exhibits of marine artefacts found in underwater explorations, there are maps, naval craft, ropes, earthenware, beer mugs, smoking pipes, barrels, vast amount of articles including artillery guns and sailor shoes. These artefacts, some of which nearly are 800 years old were recovered from ship wrecks from the sea off the Southern coast. Absolutely, we enjoyed the knowledgeable and interesting walk throughout in the museum.
