It's situated in old buildings from imperial time, and it's in very good condition.
Most of exhibition consist of Shevchenko's paintings, but I think about half of it are just copies, because originals are in Lviv.
But there are also many original works of him and his "gang".
Museum is big and very cheap — only 15 UAHs with student id.
Even if you don't like galleries and museums, you can just look at old architecture from inside.

Kyiv has a great many museums. Many of them are small and under-resourced. Not this one - the Taras Shevchenko Museum is located in a big, beautiful building in the City Center. It houses any of Shevchenko's literary works, paintings, and engravings. If you want to understand Ukraine, and its fighting spirit, learning about Taras Shevchenko is a good place to start. There are also rotating exhibits at the Museum, one of which was devoted to veterans who had been disabled in the conflict with Russian supported separatists in the east. I think Shevchenko would have appreciated that. There are brief descriptions of each room in English. You won't understand everything without knowing Ukrainian but it is still well worth a visit.

They have a good number of his originals, on display. Unfortunatelyany things are copies as the original need to be carefully preserved or is in private collections. We'll displayed and very informative. Also a beautiful building!
