Not as good as it used to be, no food menu, just overpriced charcuterie. Gin selection is great though.

Three of us eating about 2.30pm. Sunday carvery, beef fine, pork lots gristle and fat, chicken small portion, only just warm. 2 sprigs of cold tough broccoli. I would have liked far more veg. Expensive for mediocre carvery.

Me and my partner went to The White Horse for a casual dinner in the evening on our day off. As we live in Westbury-On-Trym, it is not far for us to walk there and enjoy a few drinks. We have had food there before and things like fish and chips were always decent. Tonight we both opted for the linguine with mushrooms, cream, garlic and truffle oil as it was the only vegetarian option on the menu and therefore the only dish my partner could choose from.
I am not a picky eater but I have to say it was the worst dish I had in a restaurant in my life. The pasta itself was cooked well, but the sauce was very bland, all that we could taste was oil and maybe a little bit of cream. No garlic and not the slightest hint of truffle at all. The dish consisted of a mix of mushrooms. The small button cap mushrooms were fine but the larger, unidentified type was cut and cooked in such a way that it looked like garden slugs. My girlfriend picked them out and put them on the side plate but it certainly didn't help the experience. There was also some sort of orange matter broken up on the dish which we presumed was a cheese crisp, but it tasted burned and sour at the same time, therefore we also picked it out of our plates. Not to mention my plate had what I presume was the stalk of an artichoke which is inedible and I had to inelegantly spit it out into a napkin in front of my girlfriend.
the staff were nice and friendly but at any point they didn't ask how the meal was, even after taking the unfinished plates and the side plates with mushrooms and cheese matter away. Only thing they gave us was a comment card but no pen to fill it out with.
The best part of the dish was the complimentary store bought focaccia we got before the meal. For £12 a plate, we left quite disappointed and frankly a bit sad. We went to the Co-Op across the road after and bought a ready meal spaghetti which was much better at £3.50. I probably should have complained to the manager and refuse to pay for the food but I hate complaining so I just left it at that.
The White Horse is nice if you want a few drinks in a quiet pub. Their selection of gin is nice and the wines on the list are good. If you want lunch or dinner, stick to fish and chips and maybe the burger. We will stick to the Groupo Lounge across the street from now on, which is about half the price and food there is always spot on.

Best Brunch in Bristol. £20 for hot dish, unlimited fizz, and unlimited market table. The market table has ham, salmon, bread, cheese, pastries, granola, fruit and yoghurt. Staff were lovely and attentive, fizz glass was rarely empty. I've been to several brunches in NYC and this was up there with them. Great breakfast spread and lovely drinks. We will be coming back regularly.

Always excellent. Great food for good prices, polite and efficient service - the manager is usually there in person and is absolutely spot on for a gastropub, knowledgeable and friendly without being intrusive. They have some brilliant deals on house wines and cocktails/gins, and the house red is lovely. Always happy to bring friends here and very glad it's our local!
