Quaint place! Beautiful and well thought out....the old wood makes you want to look into cupboards for hidden treasure! Guess what they went the extra mile to leave? Pads and tampons!

Comfortable nights stay here in a rambling conversion of 6 cottages. Had to walk outside to reach breakfast, but the hotel supplied umbrellas to deal with English weather.
Didn't quite hit the wow factor for me, but the hotelier works hard and hits a high standard.

Great hotel. Very close to the town centre. Staff and owners very friendly. Very good breakfast. A very old building so every room different...I was in 3....very good.

This is a longer review, so if you don't want to read the whole thing...the bottom line is that if I come to the UK again, I will definitely stay at the Abbey Hotel.
Now the full review...I was in the UK for business and spent 17 days at the Abbey Hotel/Bed and Breakfast. This hotel is in an absolutely amazing location if you're looking to explore Bury St Edmunds and I can't recommend it enough to anyone looking for any type of stay.
To start, the check-in process was very easy. I showed up and was shown to an extremely nice room, given my keys, and some information about the amenities available at the Hotel. My room was larger than I expected and the bed was really really comfortable.
Since I was there for business I had to spend a lot of my time in my room working on the internet. I'm very discerning and impatient with slow internet but the Abbey has several routers dispersed throughout the hotel and the internet was fast and reliable (plenty fast for web research and I was able to stream Netflix without issue).
Morning breakfast was relaxed with all the normal UK menu items (Full English Breakfast, Egg on Toast...) but they would happily make any off menu items and there was an unlimited supply of coffee and tea. The whole time I was there, I don't think any of the local UK guests ordered off the menu, they always requested a "custom" breakfast and the Abbey's kitchen staff always accommodated without issue.
What I was most impressed with was when I had a colleague come join me at the Abbey midway through my stay. I was moved to a larger, kind of adjoined room, where we shared a living room and also a separate dining area where we could collaborate on our project but we still had our own separate rooms and bathrooms. This was a one-of-a-kind request and the solution was perfect for our needs.
The stay would have been outstanding, but it was really put over the top by the hospitality of Quinton, Arthur, and Claire. They were lovely to work with and extremely accommodating for my non-standard schedule and requests. To me, this property is more akin to a Bed & Breakfast than a hotel because I was quickly on a first name basis with the staff and it was always so welcome to come back to my room after a long day of meetings and traveling, but all the amenities of a hotel were present; truly the best of both worlds.
Bottom line: Perfect location, extremely pleasant staff, can't say enough good things about The Abbey.
