Colchester Gallery is a small private art gallery run by an Australian artist and art historian / educator who has recently moved from Wollongong in Australia to Colchester. The owner, Tamsyn Taylor, has an eclectic mix of her own art displayed in a very relaxed somewhat homely environment over a number of rooms on the ground floor. When I discussed her plans, she talked extensively about art being "for the masses" and not being something which she feels should be exclusive or restricted, and her own art which I saw on display at her initial opening was very varied in style, ranging from a study on "bright yellow diggers", to paintings of English cathedrals, lino cuts and a series of rather provocative belly dancers.
Her aim seems very much to be, in her own words to make "art accessible to all"
