Stayed here for one night on a business trip. Bedrooms a bit dated. Lots of brown wood in evidence. Breakfast was fine and the dining room does have a great view of the city skyline. Good central location. Suspect you can get more for the money.

I had a lovely stay the rooms were clean and the views were lovely however the receptionist asked my daughter for her card she said she would hold £100 but not take it from her account yet the next day when we went to pay the bill the money had been taken out of her account we asked the receptionist for the money back to which she said it had been cancelled and would go back into her account. My daughter got in touch with her bank the next day and they said it had not been cancelled she didn't get her money back until five days after it had been taken from her account. The receptionist obviously lied.Also when we booked we asked for three late rooms which we were told would be £20 extra then when we arrived we were told that it wasn't allowed yet three different people had been told yes.The recepionists were quite rude but the porter and the barman were very pleasant and helpful.

Excellent location. Good beds.
Old weird bathroom fixtures. A whole renovation needed.
Through a huge split underneath the door you can hear every word outside the room.
This is an old-fashioned hotel for British senior citizens.
My windows looked at a dusty well contryards with a huge noisy air vent. The only night I opened the window I couldn't sleep because of the noise and a strong smell of cooking in the dawn.

South facing room overlooking Princes St & gardens had superb outlook. We stayed in September so the temperature was OK and adjustable by opening windows though I suspect it could become rather warm on sunny summer days as no air-con fitted. A fan was provided. Cleanliness and room facilities - no complaints. Bathroom OK but a bit dated, would prefer shower to bath but that's a personal preference. Extractor rather weak. Our package included breakfast which I enjoyed rather too much -full choice from healthy eating to the full Scottish ( including haggis and black pudding). All the staff we encountered were friendly, courteous and helpful. All in all a very pleasant stay. Would definitely return.

Good location. Room was castle view and extremely noisy the windows kept out no noise and rattled in the wind. I upgraded room ahead of visit and was charged for the upgrade on arrival and got to my room and it was not the upgrade I paid for! To be fair reception refunded it. Restaurant evening meal was very poor (eat elsewhere in the many wonderful restaurants in Edinburgh is my advice. we had a package so our evening meal was included) breakfast was superb though genuinely one of the best hotel breakfasts I have had in years!
