Disappointing. Its gone backwards in the last year, lost the lovely gym (permanently) and restaurant (temporarily) that made it a luxury hotel. Rooms are nice but corridors are small, narrow and dingy, and they've become overly commercial. When I went to ask for a late checkout the response was "oh sure, its 15 pounds per hour" - never staying here again. Also the hotel has no front where you can stop a car and unload, no staff out front to help you do so... definitely not delivering an experience commensurate with their pricing and position as one of the leading hotels in the city

Beautiful old Edinburgh hotel. Our room was big with a great view. But sadly the hotel is sliding into disrepair. New owners in 2016. Lifts not working, staff banal and not Scottish, bits falling off in room (curtains, fixtures). Parking a fiasco. Brasserie closed.

Spent 3 days in this hotel and really liked it. They have walls of whisky in the bar which the barman had good knowledge of. Food is good, Haggis bon bons are a good nibble. Rooms are large clean and comfy with a good entertainment system. Staff are friendly and will go out of their way to help. Only problem I had was the room was to hot and had to have the windows open all day and night.

Lovely historic building with marble stairways and walls. Excellent selection of food provided for our conference. Equipment was OK but there could have been better screens provided rather than a projector

Lovely room, very friendly staff. However, execution was lacking in some areas. Much was made of the 'fresh' half pint of milk placed in the mini-bar. Unfortunately, there was little refrigeration and the milk had turned. Covers missing from taps also contributed to the gloss being taken off the claimed premium experience. A little more attention to detail would see the higher prices being fully justified.
