Overall experience was nice with a couple of exceptions. The onion bhaji starter was overcooked leaving it like eating onion crisps. And the Lamb was a little too tough. But overall a good experience with friendly staff. Cheaper than most but then you do need to supply you're own alcohol which is not a problem.

A terrible place to eat. Possibly the worst Indian restaurant that We have ever been to... here's a summary of our experience:
It was a warm summers evening, myself and my wife decided to enjoy a relaxing meal out away from the kids. We had always planned to frequent the golden bengal in hosrforth as being local, we feel we should support local businesses. However, to our dismay we had an awful experience.
When we arrived at 7pm on Saturday 27th the waiter made us wait in the rain as they were painting the foyer and did not want us in the way whilst they splashed paint on the walls. Being politely British we said fine and we stood outside for 10 minutes watching the traffic go by whilst getting wet. Eventually we had a table located in the lovingly spacious area outside the toilets, my wife does enjoy having to move her chair every time a punter goes to the toilet and she regularly likes to comment on the odours which pass out of the doors so we were very happy to have such a prime location in the restaurant.
Next comes along the waiter, rude and impolite he comments on my clothes and says that I look out of place - I must remind you that I was dripping wet from our friendly arrival. We ordered our food and it took a while to arrive, but at least we had the toilet traffic to keep us entertained.
The curry was abismal. I cannot find enough adjectives to accurately portray the culinary experience that I had, but here are a few which come to mind:
Soggy
Cold
Festering
Heinous
Moist
Burnt
We had to go online to confirm we were actually in the golden bengal instead of a homeless shelter, luckily we were correct in our location and the 1 star food rating was a joy to our eyes.
I write this now on the toilet after spending the last night being incredibly ill after our meal. I really hope no one else has to endure the pleasures of the golden bengal. On a positive note, the food was cheap and they had plenty of toilet paper stocked in the toilets.

Looks nice on the outside, good on the inside, and nice menus. However this is where the positives end.
If you fancy a week off work with the runs then this is the restaurant for you. Prepare yourself for a lot of toilet action. 3 days and counting. As stated in a previous review this is probably down to the hygiene in the kitchen.

Staff are very knowledgable about the menu though

You know that they have a 1 star hygiene rating right? the kitchen is absolutely disgusting and their food isn't fresh they keep stuff over a week...... unless you want the runs avoid like that plague.
