I really wanted to love the newly refurbished Powder Keg when we went last night, but unfortunately it fell short.
We were a table of 4 seated on a tiny table designed for 2. Tip to the owners: If you're going to be serving tapas style sharing plates and encouraging people to order plenty of them, you should seat people on bigger tables. We were putting plates of food on the chairs next to us for extra space.
The food was absolutely delicious, and was the best part of our experience. Highly recommend the brisket, tomahawk and onion bread.
The service was atrocious - mainly because two members of staff had called in sick. The waiter forgot our drinks order twice, and when we did finally get our cocktails they were tiny and mediocre. A rip off for £9.75 a pop. There were plates being dropped and glasses being smashed, so not the most enjoyable of experiences. The music was so loud, we couldn't hear each other across the table.
I used to love the Powder Keg Diplomacy, but the new Powder Keg, not so much. Saying that, I'd go back for the food and put the service/atmosphere/music down to them just having a bad day.

Recently refurbished ... unfortunately it seems to have lost some of its character. Mediocre cocktails and service. The menu is geared towards tasting plates but doesn't seem to hit the mark i.e. steak pricing. Music was appalling. Such a shame that no one has figured out how to do simple classic drinks and food.

Great place! The food was fresh, juicy and mouthwatering. The service was outstanding I was very pleased how friendly and positive the staff was. Will come back definitely!

Great atmosphere, drinks and food. I just wish they would put their delicious mushroom gnocchi back in the menu!

Quirky cafe bar with a Napoleonic feel to the decor. Good food and live music. Friendly, attentive staff.
