First time using and awful experience. So both on my profile and search engine I have selected automatic transmission.
Picked a car, paid had it delivered (lovely gentlemen and he delivered) only to find the car is a manual transmission.
Then I mange to find a replacement go to book only to find Ridelink have charged my debit card £500 as a deposit. I was advised it was a holding fee so why are you charging it straight away?!!!
In effect renters would have to have a deposit of £500 on top of rental fee for each rental which is stupid and unrealistic. My understanding was that you take it should there be a complaint or damages.
On top of that the software needs to be improved so that it actually saves choices and preferences and selects correct data.

Great idea but very unprofessional service. The renters can damage your car and get fines and penalties and refuse to pay a penny. Ridelink has no power to force them to pay. Instead they look at blaming the owner and also suggests the owner takes the renter to small claims courts to settle it! No deposit is taken which is the problem. Easy car club on other hand is much more professional and always charge the renter a deposit. So they can't simply refuse to pay for damages or fines. Beware

Avoid - it is cheaper in the long run to go with Europcar, Avis, Enterprise etc. Although peer to peer is inevitably here to stay, there is a long way to go before trust can be established better between all parties.
Firstly, overall it is cheaper to go with an actual car hire vendor and you'll get an overall better selection of cars. The cars on RideLink tend to either be in 2 categories: 6 year old + hatch backs (VW Golf, Ford Fiesta's, Skodas) or quite new but very expensive luxury cars (Range Rover Evoques, Mercedes C Class etc). The older cars tend to be around £30 - 35 per day and the newer cars can be in the £100 - £150 range. Assuming that you don't want to hire a luxury car, compare that with a 12-18 month old Ford Fiesta from Avis / Europcar that is between £40 - 42 per day (if you book in advance).
Secondly, the quality of the car will be far better from a car hire vendor. My third and last experience with RideLink was horrible. I was given a car with scratches, no fuel and an incredibly clunky clutch. Compare that with a sparkling clean car with a full tank of fuel from a car hire vendor.
Thirdly, the trust element simply isn't there. In theory, the renter and the owner go around the car and point out any damages / issues before the renter signs. In practice, the owner takes a
photo of your driving license, then tick, tick, tick on the paperwork and the keys get given to you, 'here you go, mate'. I was naive as I had dealt with a particular owner twice before and so thought everything would be fine but he hadn't marked scratches on the back of the car on the paperwork. I also didn't check the car around enough because it was all so rushed. Crucially, there are just some things in practice that the renter won't notice. It isn't in the interests of the owner to point out any non obvious damage because as a renter, if you sign on the dotted line,
guess what? - it's on you and you are liable to pay for any damages.
In my experience, the clutch became increasingly bad during my journey. When I had spoken to RideLink about this, their response was 'why didn't you call the RAC?'. Ermm...because i'm on a
schedule, on holiday and if I can struggle with something instead of spending 2 hours waiting for the RAC to come, i'd rather just carry on? Not to mention, the customer support seems to be
closed on the weekends. Compare that with a car hire vendor - the customer service may not be as good as it should but the quality and cleanliness of the car you hire is never in doubt.
If you do decide to go with RideLink, you must really be very pedantic about certain things and be absolutely clear that the car doesn't have any unreported damage. Although a catch-22 is you can't
drive the car without signing the contract. So you can't really confirm that inner workings of the car are fine.
Fourthly, the quality control from car hire vendors is much, much better than from RideLink. The small segment of cars that are cheaper than what the car hire vendors can provide but
which are also relatively new (no more than 3 years old) all tend to be owned by a few entrepreneurial owners who can benefit from economies of scale as they have a fleet of cars on their site (20 cars +).
There is simply no way these owners have the same quality control as a car hire vendor.
On the positive side, the RideLink website is easy to use and generally, their customer service is quite good in that they are often available (although not on the weekends). Compared to the
Google reviews of easyCar Club, RideLink seems to be the peer to peer platform to use if you definitely want to use such a service.
However, given the aforementioned points, I would strongly recommend that it is easier, cheaper, safer and a better experience by using a car hire vendor and choosing a particular location which has a 24 hour drop-off, so to make it as easy / flexible for you.

Have rented from these guys a few times now. Amazing functionality and good prices. However, the best thing with Ridelink is the customer service, nothing short of perfect. Fast response time, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The last time I spoke with Tina for 1.5h while we sorted out problems with my card payments. Thanks!

First time using this site and Tina made it so easy! Best service I have had in the UK which led to a fantastic weekend away! So easy, and no concerns. What you see is what you pay. It's that simple and the RideLink team make it even more simple and super enjoyable. I will be using my account more in the future!
