For those not local Gedling Country Park is the old Gedling pit slag heap turned into a Country Park. It's actually better than it sounds! It's accessed by two main car parks, one at the top of the park (on Spring Lane) and one at the bottom (on Lambley Lane). It's quite hilly terrain and bear this in mind if you have mobility issues. Paths are shale and fully established so wheelchair access is not restricted. At the top of the park is a cafe and toilets but there are no such facilities at the bottom entrance. There is also a good children's play area with some unusual climbing frames and swings but because of this the top car park fills up quickly at peak times. There are some pleasant walks and views and the park will only improve as the trees and shrubs mature over the next few years.

Had a lovely stroll. Playground is excellent though my grandson got so excited when he saw it, he ran towards it, skidded on the gravel and hurt himself. Not a good place for gravel. Cafe staff are friendly and scones are enormous! Would like a bit more choice in the cafe. Toilets are clean.

New cafe building, large car park, 2 new fairly large playgrounds with lots to do for children, one playground being more for toddlers. Very nice views from top of the hills over Carlton and Gedling. Short, medium and long tracks for bike riding, running or walking. There is also a birds and wiildlife watching shed. Lots of wild blackberry bushes :)

I love this park and walk my dog here everyday. The wildlife never fails to delight, especially the buzzards as they hold aerial battles with the crows - fascinating. I have not yet tried the new visitors centre as we walk the dog early before it opens.

A lovely country park with a great children's play area. Unfortunately the new cafe was a real disappointment. A lot of money has been spent on this facility but it's obviously run by staff who don't really care about it. When we visited most of the tables were covered with piles of dirty crockery and the floor was also littered with debris. Given the state of the area on view to the public, we wouldn't consider eating there, as goodness only knows what the level of cleanliness in the kitchen would be like.
A great shame really. It probably just needs a good manager who cares about it.
