My wife and I have visited Noir on several occasions since it opened last year and have begun to take rather a keen interest in its' development...
Over the last few months it has really turned into a proper restaurant, with natural, concise service and a very calm ambience (in stark contrast to its opening few months, I might add with a small giggle).
The food has always been exceptional, though nowadays I can't resist the grill menu no matter how tempting the main menu sounds, those fillet steaks are just too huge and juicy to pass by. We joked about how the chef must have shares in beef fillet, only to discover that the fillet actually comes from his sister's farm! Oh how we laughed.....
Donna assures me that the chef is bordering on the 'mad scientist' type, on account of his wearing purple shoes and publicly hula-hooping while reading the papers as she walks past at tea time, but if that's what it takes to bring us a perfect 'diet' sardine lasagne, and bubbles of jelly floating in another liquid jelly with a foamy ice-cream substance on top, then he has our complete support.
Wine- don't ask me about wine lol... there's a lot there, it works very well and doesn't hurt my wallet too badly, beyond that I wouldn't know where to start, that's her job :D
Overall, we think this is a brilliant little place which could compete with any of York's finest restaurants, but is just a little bit too cool and humble to be judged against its peers.
