Traditional, historical, old and haunted. Food is hearty and beer goes down a little too easily! A worthy place to visit in a city where competition between pubs is fierce! Live music on Mondays.

Just had a fantastic 2 days at this quirky and friendly pub,
I was lucky enough to get a room which included all hallows eve, what a fantastic night !! What a place !! Full of character add this to good food (massive full English) Real ales,and brilliant and Friendly staff.
In my opinion it adds up to only one thing A REVISIT.

This ancient place is not only a pub but an inn (for those with the guts to spend the nite!). Supposedly haunted, which doesn't take too much imagination. The food was good and the atmosphere lively. One of our group set her drink on the floor to avoid it's sliding off the table!). There was even live music one nite. Highly recommend!!

This pub appeared to be one of the few that are not part of a chain in York.. The ladies serving at the bar were really friendly and helpful, and we were delighted when the large portions of delicious food arrived! yes bit pricey, but that seems to be the case in York and we think it was good value. many thanks!

Love this place. Always eat here when in York. Spooky atmosphere great food great staff. Try the deep fried onion rings theyre amazing. Make sure you check out all the nooks and crannies loads of interesting info and pics. Well worth a visit - watch out for the 'skinny' guest at the bar!
