Lesley Birch is, simply put, an amazing artist! Her work exudes a passion for translating the natural world into something uniquely attractive - my assessment of what makes a great piece of art (and this is purely my personal subjective test) is a question I ask myself when I look at a painting or sculpture: "Would this hold its own if it was displayed on a wall at The National Gallery or Tate Modern or The Guggenheim?" The answer to that particular question when I look at Lesley Birch's work is an emphatic "Yes!". My better half recently purchased a fantastic work of Lesley's at the York Open Studio event - a beautiful interpretation of a bay with rain falling in the distance which is simply breathtaking. A work of art which would hold its own in any art gallery, and which we shall treasure each and every day.
