Today I took my shahada here, I felt very welcomed. It’s a very diverse masjid, It’s easy to get to and they have a place for the women to pray.

This is a quite diverse place of worship for muslims. All five daily prayers, friday services and the 2 festive prayers are arranged here. Funeral services are simple and easy going.

The last couple of times I've been to this mosque, I went in from the front entrance with my husband as the only woman on the men's side with the excuse that we were new to town so we didn't know any other way.
Last night, when my husband picked me up after a class, we rushed to the mosque to pray the sunset prayer but were unable to go in because the front door opened to men praying in congregation. So we decided to walk together from the women's side. As we turned the corner on a shady street with barely any street lights (compared to the main street where the men's entrance is), my husband goes, "Is THIS where they want the women to go in from?! Do they not have any b***s?! Even I am scared of being here."
We went inside, prayed, and as we were leaving, the imam started speaking of the Palestinian crisis at Masjid Al-Aqsa where congregants have been prevented from going in. It was sad to realize that the same advocates for human rights elsewhere wouldn't grant the same rights to an entire gender at home, right in the places of worship they have control over. My husband told me that he wouldn't ever let me go there alone, especially at night. He is a Google geek and reviews and rates every new place we go to on Google. He exclaimed, "I don't know WHY they have a 4.7 star rating for this place on Google?!" Lol.
As we walked back to our car to the well-lit, busy, front side of the mosque, we took these pictures of the back entrance as proof for the unfairness and the sad misogyny of the Muslim community. May God protect us and allow us to follow the footsteps of the Messenger of God, Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, who would have shed tears seeing this. Ameen. #notinmyprophetsname
